While the sale of the area and cars did result on the loss of some history. The new angled parking is handy for pulling in and watching the D&S trains returning in the evening. In July after riding the Diesel train to Silverton and the Cascade Train the next day, my grandson and I parked there and watched the trains coming in. It is also a handy spot to watch the morning action too. The fence/railing helps keep older railfans, like me and younger ones, like my grandson, safely away from the tracks. Especially if you are trying to eat a sandwich, cover your ears from the whistle and wave at the same time. I do remember in the late 80s the old cars on sidings and a couple of standard gauge stock cars on NG trucks hiding in the trees on a spur where the Wells Fargo is now.
