This winter scene showing logs being loaded using a slide back loader is typical of operations on the narrow gauge logging lines in the Sumpter country. Somewhere to the right of the shot is a steam locomotive with a "gypsy winch" on the pilot. The steam powered winch has a cable run forward over the log cars to the slide back loader and up over the boom. Once the car seen in this shot is load, the winch line will be used to pull the slide back loader toward the engine onto another flat car and loading process continues until all the cars are loaded and the loader occupied the flat car nearest the engine. The scan is from the SVRR archive.
