A night trip to or from the railroad's east side is a special event. Last year the Friends scheduled a moonlight ride from Antonito to Chama because the Chama side was shut down due to covid. Among other things, as the date approached it became apparent that due to covid restrictions in New Mexico, those that went to Colorado would be required to spend 14-days in quarantine when they returned so the trip was canceled and funds returned (also, my employer requested that I not travel of state on non-essential travel so that may have been a problem for others too).
This year the Friends moonlight trip returned to the usual Chama-Osier turn. However, a moonlight trip from Antonito would be very unique and enjoyable so that features such as Phantom Curve, the tunnels and the gorge at night could be seen. I hope they would consider such a trip in the future though I realize logistics of the return to Chama where most are staying would need to be solved.
