I have attached photos taken in 1982, of the two tenders which had been shipped to the SV RR in 1977, along with two locomotives and a rotary.

The tender behind #19 / 81 was the tender assigned to that locomotive in 1947. This tender had been taken from one of USA 191, 193, 194, 197, which were out of service by that year.

The tender behind #20 / 80 in the photo was the tender assigned to Rotary #2 since 1953. This tender had come from #192, which remained in service, and received a hybrid tender in 1953.

The tender behind #20 / 80 until 1962 had been put on display at the Skagway Museum behind #195 in that year. So, this tender was not shipped to the SV RR.

A distinguishing difference between the two tenders in the photos is the tops of the ladders on the left front of the tender. The #19 / 81 tender ladder had rounded railings at the top, which extend way up. The #192 / Rotary 2 tender ladder has an angled railings at the top, which do not extend very high. From this ladder distinction, one can determine that the superstructure of the #19 / 81 tender is the one that was substituted behind #73, sometime between 2001 & 2003. The previous #73 tender can be distinguished, because it had had the tender ladder removed in 1982.

I don’t have an opinion as to which tender underframe is in the 1991 photo,

Robert
