Folks:
I was on the trip yesterday that was adjusted due to mechanical issues. I did not hear any complaints about the crews or the locomotives. Only about being cooped up in a fully occupied vintage coach on a warm day for over three hours and not being allowed off the train, even in small groups, for a couple photos. And the lack of communication. I observed some exhausted Eureka and Glenbrook crews on the Thursday trip and the one yesterday. Anyone who would blame them, IMHO, is an infidel. The locomotives looked and sounded great climbing out of Lobato and through Dalton. For me, the biggest disappointment was that the crews and volunteers did not get to make a triumphant, grand finale, climb up to the top of the pass. Showing off the locomotives to the masses along the way. I wish I would have snapped a pic of the crowd at the first level crossing out of Chama, it was pretty impressive. I just hope everyone got home safely from the event.
1) Climbing up the Pass after passing over Lobato Trestle
2) The Eureka has cut off and backed down the siding at Cresco.
3) 425 and Glenbrook after boarding the regular train.
4) Glenbrook crew waving at the train
5) A disappointed Eureka crew waving at the train
Thanks again to all involved for making this event possible.
