One pond east of Cumbres, one pond west -
You can easily catch trains passing both of them in both directions on the same day, Ted — especially if you pack a picnic lunch so you aren't tempted to head back to Chama for a sandwich and a beer in the middle of the day. Here's The (mis-)Painted Lady #489 passing Perry's Pond (aka Mudhen Marsh) – just a short hike south of the Coxo crossing – back in September, 2008

. . . and the south half of the Los Pinos Pond (I don't know what else to call it) near m.p. 226 about a year later
:
There's a rough road leading down from Highway 17 to the old version thereof about 1/2 to 2/3 of a mile south of the Los Pinos tank — drive slow & keep your eyes peeled. No problem getting a 4WD or even an AWD like my Ford Escape down there, I'm not sure about a normal 2WD sedan following this year's heavy rain

OTOH, if you don't mind sacrificing an entire morning of chasing around elsewhere, a hike up to Roger's Rock – visible near the top left of Bill Kepner's photo just above – is well worth the effort. See [
