About a half-dozen years ago one of the charter train photography planners reached out to the Friends tree and brush crew before our annual work week in late June and asked if we could remove the surface growth on the pond so the shooters on an upcoming charter could get some clear-surface reflection shots of a runby. He noted that the growth was out in the water a ways and suggested that whoever would be doing the cutting be provided some waders to work while out in the pond. Well, the Friends didn't have any waders in our tool inventory so I posted a request on the Friends Forum for waders and sure enough, a member offered to provide a pair that he'd gotten for a fishing trip that never happened. We arranged for him to ship the donated waders to the late Doug Frederick in Chama so they'd be waiting for us that June. And they were. But then the charter planner let us know that the charter wouldn't make it west of Cumbres so no pond shots were planned. Years later, the crew this past June did a thorough check of all tools and gear in the car in the Chama yard where some of our stuff is stored. Those waders are still there, still in the box sent by that Friends member. Because of the increased wildfire threat, the tree and brush crew is really focused these days on cutting back trackside growth along the ROW and hasn't done much cutting for photographic vistas in the last few years. But who knows, maybe we'll have occasion to use those waders down the road.
