Thanks for the reply, Jeff.

Very much understand the concept of not always wanting strong materials (material selection is so much more than just "strength"). My angle was purely that of manufacturing complexity and cost. So it sounds like you want the brittle failure mode of cast iron?

It's certainly possible to design an equivalent failure point and mode into a steel head. But perhaps it isn't worth the time or effort to do that.
