Here is a circa 1915 shot of the 368 foot long siding at Sugar Loaf on the Denver, Boulder & Western (Colorado & Northwestern / Switzerland Trail). This siding was at mile post 17.3, about 100 yards west (railroad east as it was towards Boulder) of the Sugar Loaf depot.
Main line on the right, siding on the left. While the main line is pretty level, the siding appears to go kind of up and over a rock outcrop.
The view from roughly the same vantage point today
A close up of the rock "hump" that the siding went up and over. The quartz on the left can be seen as a light spot in the circa 1915 photo. The black coloration in the ground is from the result of cinders.
