Re: Coal to Oil Conversions from a ocean ship perspective

The Great Big Move has also recently uploaded a video on the fireman of the coal burning ocean liners. It was a very labor intensive job. When the RMS Olympic was converted to oil, the job was much easier and the White Star Line needed less firemen. It was also easier to control the boiler pressure at different engine revolutions. The Olympic’s speed was also increased by a tenth of a knot. If the RMS Titanic and the HMHS Britannic survived, they both would’ve been converted to oil along with their older sister.
