I'm sorry, but the whole "you can do it if you prioritize" schtick is just so tone-deaf and blind to the realities that so many people in the US live in. I'm 30 and have the resources to throw at train trips and travel - but I'm the uncommon 30 year old who can...and my position is one that exists primarily out of luck and circumstance, not hard work.
The uncomfortable reality is that many people never realize their dream no matter how hard they work or prioritize. Congratulations: you are privileged that you lived in a time where part-time work could put you through college
and allow you to save up for world travels. Many full-time jobs today won't put you through college, much less barely pay the rent or world travels.
And that's one of the reasons that I don't like the fancy charters; they are pretentious. Pretentious in the assumption that the unwashed masses could do it too, if only they were smart enough and worked hard enough.
Thus, we are having this conversation of how cheaper, fun charters might be arranged for a larger audience. While also acknowledging that there will
still be folks for whom the mere cost of travel and lodging is beyond their financial ability.
