If I recall correctly, Steven Spielberg and his production company Amblin Entertainment had nothing to do with
Wild Wild West (1999) nor
Gods and Generals (2003) as the two films were produced by Barry Sonnenfeld and Ted Turner, respectively. However, I will admit that the "William Mason" blended in within those movies' historical settings quite well.
