Hi Chris,
One of the museum "regulars" may offer more insightful comments, but I believe that the streaking you are seeing in the jacket is related to the oil that they use on it. I know that Jason has the guys oil that jacket regularly, and as Matthew alluded, the weather on the first day of our charter was miserable, with a wind-driven, rain. That jacket changes visually, depending on a number of things. Sometimes, it is optically jet black. Under a clear, blue sky, it looks blue. The streaking is probably due to a film of oil and combustion products that are sticking to it....and running in the rain.
