It is really good news that someone has taken an interest in preserving East Mancos tank. It sits on private property that is 'out of sight, out of mind'. The property was on sale for some time and a small group of people which, without the help of Rod Guggenhiem of Dolores would not have happened, were allowed onto the site. This would have been eight or so years ago and we were given access to the whole property which showed a number of farm buidings contructed using RGS railroad ties.
The tank already had a lean, the two nearby cars were rotting away (I took small paint samples) as was the trestle which I think was partially removed.
If anyone has an interest in this project and I echo the post which asks of photos from Fritz or Loren, please chip, in. Gato has gone, I was there two or three days after it fell as a result of very high winds, Bondad looks grim but East Mancos, as it it protected somewhat from wind, has remained. I for one am delighted and relieved.
Nice work guys and thank you. Thanks Rod too.
