When I went to Vietnam in 1964, my unit was given the task of reopening the Vietnam National Railway from the Port of Qui Nhon to the town of Phu Cat. The purpose of this was to move all equipment needed to the Phu Cat USAF Base just being constructed there. A siding was constructed along the route to service a rock crusher (built by a Korean contractor) and closer to Phu Cat a cement plant (also built by a Korean contractor) The track from the docks thru the city of Qui Nhon to the Qui Nhon main station was torn up after we lost the War. All the work was done by hardworking Vietnamese RR workers, they were amazing and proud of the railroad. The locomotive in the photo was BB901 a French built BB unit leftover from from their occupation days. It was a hell of a puller compared to the GE U8B's we brought in.
This is the first post I have done with a picture. I seem to be unable to post several other pictures possibly of interest. Any tips would be appreciated.
I would like to post pics of the U8Bs, Some armored cars we used, a typical train thru town, a steam deadline view and possibly some others
