On another topic, I brought up the runaway tracks on the Kuniming-Haiphong Railway in southwestern China. This meter gauge line was built by the French in 1880-1911 and runs through the rugged mountains of southern China. The line is currently operated by China Railways (CR) as the KunHe line, but faces abandonment due to a new standard gauge line.
In 2013, I biked the length of the railway from Vietnam to Kunming China. Since there was little road access, this was the only way to access much of the line. I've attached a few photos, all of these shots are of the Chinese operation. The locomotives are DFH21 diesel hydraulics built in 1984-1985, which makes them older than most of the steam locomotives (NNG and NG) that I saw running in China in 2008-2018.
