Paint chip analysis was performed and the 1st layer was a green-brownish color. However, the chip was from a sun exposed area, and it was apparent that there had been significant fading. From what we know of the car, it was in the intended service for only a short period of time after delivery from Pullman. CRA #25 has it being sold to Colorado and Northwestern in 1898. Was it painted then? Does that 1st layer represent 1889 to 1898 or a much later date? The team that's worked on the car over the last 9 years has been contempting the paint color for a long time. Other restoration people that have restored simular cars were consulted, so the color decision was not made overnight.
