Howdy all: long-time lurker here. In a fit of pandemic lockdown boredom, I took to collating a timeline of whistles and their engines at the C&TSRR. I am not an expert on whistles, nor a Chama local, and worst of all a young person whose majority experience with the narrow gauge was through the power of home video- I would've taken only my second ride this season- so feel free to tear into it! If you're a C&TS veteran who wants to make this more comprehensive, pleasMy basis was mainly a 2013 post from Earl Knoob I dug up (http://ngdiscussion.net/phorum/read.php?1,249221,249599), plus some other posts; obviously this stuff is indebted to Earl and others' knowledge and memories. I then checked and amended it against photos of the whistles and videos/audio featuring the railroad's sounds over the years. I did my best to take into account things like doppler effect, mic quality, etc, when identifying the whistles.
A lot of special and private whistles have been left out; this is just what they appear to have worn during your average season run. Also, if you know for a fact that I blatantly got a whistle wrong with one of the video examples, don't hesitate to let me know. Enjoy!
