Thanks Dan for pointing that out (again) in this context. I have to say flat out that no matter what the eye and some professor say about some modern study, if one is creating a computer type font of/for a historic recreation, the font has to be as it was on the original item. Anything less is a lie and an offense to the historical record. If one wants to create a version that complies with modern studies and tastes, that's fine (for some people), but it should be clearly labelled as such. And I'm fully aware that paint was subject to the whimsies of the painters and you can never state an absolute in history - sooner or later someone will always prove you wrong - but we should be as accurate as possible in every detail in preservation.
