Interesting about the photos in your first link [
ngdiscussion.net] I think I first saw about the Iowa engine in the Colorado Rail Annual that Brian mentions. After all its travels I was amazed that three neat features remained from the original locomotive - what appears to be original number plate, the distinctive South Park headlight support, and best of all the elaborate casting above the finial on the bell. Despite the WWII scrap drive, I wonder if at least the bell is still around somewhere.
The second link [
alpinetunnel.blogspot.com] has a comment from Douglas W. Jones that one of the larger Masons was also sold out at the same time as the university engine, and that there was a photo of it on a website called oldtomstoys. This link no longer works however, and since it’s only from 2017, I wonder if someone has a shot of that engine.
