Well, the memory is gone. The 06092 had single spring draft gear also. This shows the cheek plates as we were tearing down, new draft timbers in the car ready for the cheek plates and them installed in the car. The two straps sitting on top of the sills behind the butt block are the block retainers.
An interesting note on the draft timbers on the 06092. It was the first car to have all the sills replaced. We knew the center sills on the cars had the larger draft timbers spliced onto each end but there was so little left that we die not realize they were oak. The decision was made by the railroad to use the wood we had. They said it would be a rear end car on photo freights with only a caboose behind it. Of course the first time I saw the car go up the hill at Chama Steam 1, it was up at the front with a lot of cars dragging behind. It held up very well for many years and has now been rebuilt again.
