Although I have seen some similar shots before, I find it interesting that the D&RGW had to foresight to split the engines up, in the event the new C&TS had to haul trains to Chama, so the weight restrictions over the bridges was adhered to. It looks like there is about a 5 car split between the engines. Of course later when 483 was fired up they had to break the trains down further and reassemble further up the line at various locations. There is a documentation of all those first runs in Sept onward that is fascinating reading as well. Seems there was a little pamphlet or book done by Ernie Robart and Terry Ross documenting all the moves.
