I am in Ridgway today.
Galloping Goose No. 1 was traveling around the new trackage with guests.
The museum was no open. I checked it’s website which says the museum should be open. While it is small, I find the museum well worth the visit. The museum has an excellent model of the RGS facilities that once were in Ridgway.
Thursday and Saturdays there are work days and you could see the interiors of some old cars. Work days start at 0900.
In general Ridgway narrow gauge museum is in transition – moving and expanding.
There is little to see in Ouray from the railroads. At least I have yet to find any.
As you travel from Ouray, if you know where to look, there are the remains of much ROW to be seen. Depending on the vehicle you have a visit to Red Mountain town would be fun. Red Mountain town is on a county highway just off US 550 a few feet below Red Mountain pass.
Out of Silverton I believe another interesting drive is along the Silverton Gladstone. I believe the route currently is along the road to the Silverton ski area.
