I realize your plan only takes you as far as Durango but unless you have already done it, it would be a shame to come that far and not take the "TABB"Tracks Across Borders Byway. It is the scenic and historic rail route between Durango and Chama. the TABB has two water tanks, several bridges,and four narrow gauge cars on display. At Gato there is still track in place. Of course it goes without saying that the Cumbres & Toltec is not to be missed, particularly in high season when the colors are changing and the trains are likely to be doubleheaded.
