Thanks for the additional details John. I never got to meet the owners of the car as there was no one living there when we first saw it and it's always nice to know the backstory. A lot of nice people in the valley and always very surprised by someone showing interest in "that old railcar".
By the way, I saw in the work photos that 3 of the gons at Antonito were purchased from the CRRM? Do you know which numbers? Surprised that they had any available, although I suppose that they are using 3(?) others as storage platforms of sorts now...
I have a bit of a soft spot for the high side gons and flatcars since they often get overlooked and underpreserved (about 1/3 or more of the 3000 series boxcars and 5500 stockcars survive complete or as bodies, but only about 100 or so of the gons out of almost 1300 from the 3 classes that made it to the 60's). I also find their individuality of interest due to stake repairs and splices.
