I was not meaning to imply the C&TS would not be there.

It is a restriction to growth. Same goes for WP&Y (which cruse ships help out), D&RGW narrow gauge (which movies helped out - plus other things). Grand Canyon is out of the way and yet today has smog and traffic jams. The EBT had the Pennsylvania Turnpike take over the ex-NYC grading of the proposed South Penn RR and so has its traffic diverted very much unlike the Geogretown Loop.

Mesa Verde in the first quarter of the 1900's was much the same.

If you are in a bad location, then a lot of extra effort needs to be made to overcome the inherent issues of you location.
