I first passed through RGS Country in late Summer, 1966 -
It was raining hard, and construction of the new highway over Lizard Head Pass had made a two- or three-mile-long mudhole of the old road that I was lucky not to get stuck in. I went back two years later when the weather was MUCH better, and hiked in to and around the Butterfly Trestle from somewhere near Ames

By the time I moved to Telluride in October, 1972, the Butterfly Trestle was gone. According to locals, the owner of the nearby Butterfly Mine – once served by a short spur near the upper end of the trestle, IIRC – had knocked it down to "salvage" the timbers to brace his tunnels
