Last Saturday, the WW&F Railway received the Amherst Railway Society's 2016 Founders Grant Award.
The Award was presented to the WW&F Railway by ARS President Bruce MacCullagh at the ARS "Big E" Railroad Show in W. Springfield, MA. The show draws 24,000 people to the Eastern States Exposition Center each year which creates funds for railroad preservation grants. The $10,000 Founders Grant Award is for the construction of a Portland Company style wooden queen truss turntable at the WW&F yard in Alna, Maine. The bridge will be 48' and the timbers have been ordered. The turntable will be a replica of the original Wiscasset table that was located in the upper yard. WW&F Railway President Steve Zuppa stated "we hope to have the turntable finished in time for the National Narrow Gauge Convention that will be held in Augusta this year". The turntable is being built prior to the construction of the roundhouse which should take place in 2017.
