Roger, Hats off to the "Friends Of The 483" to getting that impossible dream of restoring the 483 one step closer to reality. The Friends Of The SJE support your efforts 100% as we are in that same situation today as the 483 was in 1977, an almost impossible dream against 7 figure odds. You guys had the foresight and courage to DO something about it rather than just talk and have memories, so does The Friends Of The SJE
Just another dream.......It would only be fitting, and an honor, to have the 483 as the point engine leading a quadruple header of a K-27, K-28, and a K-37 pulling the first train from Chama to Durango(or vice versa or one from each end to meet half way) on the rebuilt line. The railfans would go absolutely ballistic and Kodak stock would jump 5 points that day.
