I believe a major reason so much was raised for the 463,
compared to what was raised for the 483, is that the latter was
done by several individuals with corresponding small "megaphones",
while the former was done by the Friends, who have their own
giant "megaphone" plus all the small "megaphones" available to
the individuals.
I am very disappointed. I would have liked to see 483 all pointed up
(red & gold, no green) for the Fiftieth Anniversary, but getting yet
another class (now Five of them) should be great for marketing.
