STB Denies City of Creede's Protest

May 24, 2000 10:01AM
The Surface Transportation Board has turned down Creede's protest of the proposed sale to Don Shanks's outfit.
The entire text can be linked to below on the news section of my site at www.A-Trains.com.
As an aside, I got a "back-door" e-mail from a reader here wondering why I was so opposed to seeing the Creede Branch run.
I'm certainly not against it. If they do buy it, I'll be standing in line to ride and wishing them the best.
What I just don't understand is the logic in converting it to narrow gauge as has been previously reported (today's STB's decision says nothing about this).
It just doesn't make economic sense to me.
The STB's decision says that they are quite satisfied that proper financing is in place, so what do I know?
If they do pull this off let's hope that they have a quality operation and that they succeed.
The C&TS may have to hustle more to get patrons, but that is life I suppose.
