This has happened right here in the U.S. I was on the Georgetown Loop train that snagged a telephone wire that then pulled down the high tension wires crossing the track onto the roof of the caboose and onto the roof of the covered car next in line. It was quite spectacular, with flashing arcs of electricity, flying roof debris and members of the wedding party on that car next to the caboose hitting the floor. I was in the open car directly in front of the locomotive, and the engineer saw all this happening and quickly stopped the train. I mentioned my experience recently to Lindsey Ashby and he told me he was in either the caboose or open car when that happened. The train stopped at the Georgetown station parking lot, so I got off the car, walked about 100 feet to my car and left just as the emergency crews arrived. No one lost their heads, but it left me with a vivid memory.
