Dan:
We spoke some years back when I first purchased a 1930 Porter 3' gauge fireless with a partner named Dom Visconti. This was Apache Power #6. We did a fairly nice job restoring the locomotive for air operation and I was working on the steam option as well. We were part way through the building of a fairly substantial 3' gauge flat car when Dom died suddenly last July. Since the locomotive and track were on his farm in southern NJ, I ended up selling/donating it to the Arizona State Railroad Museum. The car was dismantled and the wheel sets sold to an individual down near DC.
Here in NJ, there is an individual with a 42" gauge Porter in his backyard which is done up quite nicely. Its not operational, but it is well done and he was looking to sell it.
In Ohio I visited the owner of Apache #5 which is nicely restored. He also runs it on air and has about a 1/2 mile of track on his cattle farm. Seems to me he had a restored Brookville also. Its a beautiful setting and worth a visit. He also has several standard gauge cabooses which are beautifully restored on his property.
There's a couple of other small Porters under restoration by individuals around the country. Several of these guys were helpful when we had a piston issue with our #6. Kind of a tight knit community of sorts.
And, yes, I miss my little Porter, but she was just a tad too big for the garage.
