DRGW #483 Wreck

This shot was taken by Dick Harrison on 9-26-58 just east of Durango, Co. Mr. Harrision noted on the back of the print that he had arrived that day to ride to Silverton and that the fireman on #483 had been killed in this accident. The overturned engine is #483 and #494 is in the back ground. Can anyone fill in more details as to what took place here? I wonder what the guy with the torch is doing? The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
