Welcome Aboard Rail fans! On September 30th and October 1st, 2010 the C&TS RR will provide a unique opportunity to ride the rails with a working freight train and maintenance of way photo special from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO and return. This two day event features an outstanding opportunity to view an actual working maintenance of way train in action during fall colors. The Eastbound Thursday freight will commence (8:00am Chama departure) with a “double header” to Cumbres Pass along with several photo run bys. The helper engine will then continue on eastbound into Antonito slightly ahead of the train for continued photo ops. Also along the route on both days, passengers will take photos of the “Galloping Goose” which will be on hand for its own special as well.

After a superb lunch at Osier Station, rail fans will then be given a unique opportunity to view the track gang repairing and replacing ties along with dropping and spreading ballast while enroute to Antonito, CO. Buses will be provided to transport passengers back to Chama in the early evening.

October 1st (Day 2): Rail fans will board the morning coach to Antonito at 10:00am. Departure from Antonito will be 11:30am with a mid train helper westbound allowing for several afternoon desert/canyon/tunnel photos with different angles of the sun than the usual photo freights due to the later departure time. Fall colors in the canyon will be spectacular. A lovely dinner of Rock Cornish game hens, baked potato and all the fixings will be provided at Osier Station. A return to Chama “under the stars” just a few days after the full moon offers all passengers yet another uniqueness to this very special event. Finally, those interested will be able to join Michael Ripley (professional photographer) for a one hour photo night shoot with three locomotives in the Chama yard to conclude the extravaganza.

Pricing for this two day special is a very reasonable $550 ($650 for two day caboose seating). Two cabooses will be available along with one rider box car.
