Azotea Tunnel

John: Thanks for the info on the length and diameter of the Azotea tunnel. However, the tunnel does not, as you stated, take water from the San Juan River. It takes water from the Navajo River.

The outflow does end up in the Rio Chama, but the outflow of the tunnel goes into Willow Creek,then into Heron Lake and then into the Rio Chama.

Another point of interest is that it takes water from the west side of the Continental Divide to the east side.

Ray Martinez, a long time C&TS employee, worked on the construction of the tunnel and has gone through it, on a golf cart, during inspection tours.
