Hi Thor,
Nice to see that the situation came to a good end ! As far as I understand, it was quite difficult over the past years to convince the plant owner to let the equipments in railroad friends' hands.
I was aware of EFPP by a friend (we volunteer for the same railroad here in France) a couple of years ago when he went in the Perus area. He was working for SKF (bearing manufacturer).
After some research, he was so surprised to see so much 2ft gauge engines still together. And so was I. It's really like time was stopped there.
From my point of view, moving the engines will require at least to remove main rods and eccentric rods to prevent pistons and valves to move. Fill in with oil everything that will move, including the cylinders. Even nothing will move into it, this will prevent more rust, and will be very helpfull by the time the engines will eventually return to life.
Of course the level of preparation before the move will depend of the time you have to do it ! Moving 60 pieces of equipment will require some days of work.
In fact, if you guys don’t know what to do with some “spare” engine (what about #10 or 14 ???) feel free to send it here in France. I’m sure even steamers will like wine and cheese
All the best !
