Here's a cleaned-up (de-diseaselized) shot of the
Rio Grande Ski Train posing as the "Pacific Shore Limited"
as she approached the wildlife refuge at Elkhorn Slough, between Watsonville and Salinas, on 09/12/92.
As you can see, Grand Gold goes pretty well with the Daylight Orange on Doyle's tender:
And here's (almost) the whole enchilada; the diseasels have magically reappeared, but are hiding:
Due to fortuitous "it's not WHAT you know, it's WHO(m) you know" connections, my mom, my (now ex-)wife and my daughter all got to ride the observation (the Kansas?) from SLO to L.A., while I chased to get pics. Here she is on Sunday, 09/13/92, just a few miles south of Guadalupe, being pulled by (IMHO) the classiest standard gauge lokey currently operational - ex-S.P. #2472, and about a week later at Gaviota, heading north as "The Earth Train":
