D&RGW 04990

July 13, 2009 08:03PM
Some views of the progress on D&RGW 04990 in Boulder (All photos are from July 11);
west end.jpg
an overall view of the "long end" of the car. This end wall survived the fire completeley intact and retains its original siding. The roof over the platforn retains its original tounge & groove sheathing as well.
east end.jpg
The "short end" did not survive as well. Most of the wall structure was destroyed in the fire, what the fire did not get, rot had gotten years ago.
short end.jpg
A view of the new roof sheathing on the "short end". This t&g material is recycled siding from the caboose. This is in keeping with how the Rio Grande built the roof over the platforms on 04990.
