Here's a set of shots taken at the grade crossing for the "new" highway looking to the southeast. The "Then" photo comes from Brian Norden's collection and was taken sometime between abandonment (1938) and the removal of the track (1943). The "Now" photo was taken on June 19,2010. Roughly 70 years separate these photos. The fill for the "newest" highway fills the background. In the foreground the cleared area is from recent highway widening construction using the area to store fill material. At some point the construction vehicles knocked a tie (complete with spikes) loose from the rr grade (visible towards the left middle of the photo). I wonder if the rails are still present beneath the asphalt at the original grade crossing?
