Hi, Earl -
Per Joe Hereford and Ernie Robart's excellent book '
Rio Grande Narrow Gauge - The Final Years - Alamosa to Chama', there were at least two trains from Durango to Chama in July, 1967.
On July 9, the engines appear to have been #498 and #484; on July 24 #493 and #497 did the honors. There may have been other trips the weeks between these two, the week before, or the week after, but there are no photos or captions in the book referring to a train either on July 16 or 17 nor on July 30 or 31.
It appears that the D&RGW was running freights about once a week in 1967, and it's unlikely that Ernie or Joe were able to chase all of them. But there are also superb photos of trains in Chama on June 13, June 22, June 30, August 17 and August 26, as well as others both earlier and later in the year.
"Thirty-four freight trains ... operated over Cumbres Pass in 1967; there were only nine the following year."
