Carbon Jct had a storage track and not much else. But cars were stored there either for return to Alamosa or for Farmington, so it did stretch out a bit When Carbon Jct was full, trains continued on into Durango with the balance for the next turn to Farmington or Chama. By 1967, Carbon Jct had fallen into neglect like the balance of the system as in this picture looking south taken by Roger Cook, with the Chama line to the left, and the 498 crossing over to the line to Farmington:
