I'll have you know that Chief Ouray was our spiritual leader at Ute Trail Boys Ranch near Lake City in the '60s. There is even a big rock on a cliff that is shaped in his image and is where his spirit resides. We were all Texans and we pronounced his name You'-Ray. So there!
High up in the Rocky Mountains,
stands the Chief Ouray,
guardian of the Ute Trail campers,
all along their way.
He was brave and he was daring,
like him, we'll strive to be.
Hail to thee, oh Chief Ouray!
Hail Ute Trail to thee!
And I now live on South Ouray Way in Aurora.
That's Youuuu-Ray y'all!
P.S. All the Denver area D&RGW employees that I have ever met pronounced it "Rye O Grand".
And I think that most people put the accent on the second syllable of Saguache - sa watch'
Finally, I prefer to say "Coloradians", as in color radio.
