The pictures of Rico and the remains of the enginehouse were shot in June 1973. I was on one of my exploring trips with Bob Shank Jr. and John Crawford. I was able to kick up a few Jeffrey spikes in the area. The rail was still in place inside the enginehouse and Bob Shank Jr. had just pulled 2 complete shop stoves out of the rubble a few weeks before. The Rico station was in a large pile, but again Bob was able to find one of the roof braces in the rubble. The photos of the trestle are along the highline. We were able to walk across at the time. I was back in the area a few weeks after the trestle collapsed in 1979 if I remember right. The photos of the miner's cabin and the large mill were back in La Plata Canyon. We had to hike in to get to them and I remember finding the cabin with dishes and a newspaper dated in the teens still on a table. John Crawford told me the mill was named the Gold King but I am not positive this was the actual name. The other photos are of Como in June 1974 and of Red Moutain with the remains of the Jail and the Yankee Girl. I haven't been back for at least 20 years but I don't imagine much is left.
