A lot depends on location too. The New Hope & Ivyland has run for years with one steamer & diesels when 340 is down. Their trains fill up well. It's a short 9 mile round trip & New Hope is a major tourist town near PHiladelphia. Of course, the people who live in New Hope complain about the whistle & smoke, but hearing that whistle brings a lot of tourists walking though town over to the station.

And for the more serious fan, they run an annual steam photo freight over the entire 18 mile line.
