Gentlemen,
I've enjoyed reading everyone's opinions. Glad to see you all care so much.
A couple of points; Note that my posts deal only with RGS 20. I am not making broad, sweeping statements about restoration/operation in general. Personally, i've been involved with restorations on the C&TS since the mid '70s. Even paint colors and lettering don't really bother me on that railroad. As stated by Mr. EBTRR, it's all a matter of ballance.
ETrump had it right when he said that Who owns it gets to decide. Just because someone offers lots of money to restore it, doesn't mean they have to accept. And obviously, those with the title, have made their decidion. Since I'm not the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club, nor even a member, my statement is just my oopinion, nothing more. Frankly, if the Rocky club hadn't bought 20 when they did, she wouldn't even be here for us to debate this.
Hoss, thanks for sharing about your hip. I'm glad to hear that it is working out for you. I don't think your comparison between yourself and an old steam locomotive is really valid. That said, if YOU had been a steam locomotive on the RGS, I don't believe they would have bothered with the replacement hip. They probably would have banged the old one back in place, applied some bailing wire, and put you back to work.
Don't forget, none of this has anything to do with Linn or the work he and his crew are doing.
