"I guess it's just me, but I can't help thinking that an auful lot of stuff is being replaced. I wonder if it wouldn't have been cheaper/better to leave 20 alone and build a copy to run....

Once the boiler has been worked over with these large patches, new door sheet, new flue sheets, new firebox, etc. and the new appliances get installed, new piping, new conduit for the wiring, new wire, new cab, etc. Where is the history? Not really 20 anymore. At least in my mind.

Everyone is free to disagree, but it won't change my mind. I've been through all those threads. I'd personally rather see the real 20 sitting there at the museum, bent frame, bent boiler and all, rather than have all that thrown out so some can see it run, once in a while."

Why not correct the historical oversight and just scrap it like 99% of steam locomotives were ? Then we can get on to making history without all this old "clutter" in the way ! God save the Wal-Marts !
