IMHO, I still think ex-T&P #610 would be THE perfect engine for the Grand Canyon Railway. She pulled the 22-car American Freedom Train over some fairly good hills at a pretty good clip in 1976. IIRC, the Southern Railway - not exactly the flattest RR in the U.S. - was quite impressed a couple of years later as well.
A couple of months ago someone mentioned that the ATSF used to run 2-10-2's up to to the canyon, so 610's wheelbase should not be a problem. I rather doubt the folks who run the museum at the Texas State Railway would lease her out, but you never know ...
Yes, I know, there is a diseasel in the above photos. But to the best of my knowledge it was never above Run 1 all day. (IIRC, this was Abe's Birthday, 1976).
