Canvas Roofing

Dennis:
I'm sure it wouldn't take very long for an unpainted canvas roof to darken the color of soot and coal dust. I'll bet after a week you couldn't tell what it was.
A question that comes to mind, though-- Was the canvas on the wood cabs treated in any way to make it fire resistant?
