This question may have been addressed before. If so, my apoligies.
On Pg 96 of O'Berrys work shows a L.S. shot of the 456 in 1926 at Crested Butte.
Just what are the two markings (horizontal strips with numerals?) left of the herald on the collar above the cistern portion of the tender?
With few pix of engines during the 20's, its hard to tell whether this was short lived standard practice or something on test.
